About this site
Hebrew Gematria Calculator is an independent reference site. It computes the numerical values of Hebrew words by the traditional methods, and also offers the Greek, Arabic and modern English systems that people often look for alongside them. We also run three Hebrew calendar tools.
How we work
- The arithmetic is tested. Every method lives in a single engine file. Its unit tests include values from classical sources: השטן = 364 (Yoma 20a), אליעזר = 318 (Nedarim 32a), יין = סוד = 70 (Sanhedrin 38a), and the Atbash readings Rashi gives for Jeremiah 25:26 and 51:1. The site is not published if a test fails.
- Meanings are sourced. A value is arithmetic. When we say a number is significant, we cite the text, and we checked every citation on this site against the text itself. Where we could not find a reliable classical source, we say so rather than repeat a claim.
- No fortune-telling. We do not use numbers to predict events, decode news or say what a name means for a person’s life.
- Open data. The Hebrew word lists come from the Open Scriptures Hebrew Lexicon (Strong’s dictionary, CC BY 4.0) and the English lists from Alan Beale’s public-domain 12dicts. Details are on the sources page.
Corrections
If you find a wrong value, a misattributed source or a transliteration that could be better, please tell us. We fix errors quickly and are glad of the help.
